In your post you sarcastically compare short selling with plain buying, it is not the same, if you OWN shares of a company and dont like where it is going, you have to sell them, there is nothing arificial about that, but if you ask someone else for their shares or even worse in the case of naked short selling, you are artificially driving the price down to make a buck, no doubts about that.
Whether short selling does or does not benefit the market is a different discussion.
