Daimler Benz owns the world's biggest truck factory producing 400 trucks per day.
In other words it produces about as many trucks in a week with 11,000 workers as does Volvo-Mack
plant in Wacol does in a year with 6000 employees.
No wonder Daimer Benz imports its trucks to Aus CBU!
But don't kid yourselves, China is becoming the biggest truck market in the world eclipsing that of Europe & the USA
so its only a matter of time until China claims the laurels, IMO.
PS: I've had factory tours (and silver service lunches) there and it is amazing.
Set in a rural setting in SW Germany along the Rhine, its simply a credit to
Germany and the German Government in how it grew such a mega factory in a relatively
remote region and the only thing it had/has going for it is the Rhine barging system.
This is the ultimate in intelligent value adding, IMO. because all the materials have to be shipped in
together with a liberal sprinkling of migrant workers.
And don't do the usual song and dance about Australia's high wages & unionisation because
Worth has both and prospers !
