This whole trade war is a debacle bought on my Morrisoin performing for an audience of one who no longer sits in the Whitehouse so zero gain there. We do not make the same demands of our other trade partners that we make of China. For example we worked diligently behind the scenes to secure East Timor independence while maintaining a constructive relationship with Indonesia. Time is a great healer but not if you constantly pick a the wound. We should do the same diplomacy with China. The current leadership is not immortal and the rise of the middle class there will have a profound effect on future China policy. But this will be negated if countries actively work against the leadership in Beijing forcing it to rely on rampant nationalism to stay in power. Australia is on the wrong side of history in this fight. We should actively engage with our biggest trading partner. Failure to do so will cost us in the long run.
