The freedom of being able to let go or dispossess is encouraged because inevitably our lives are subject to aging, illness, death and separation from the loved. Selflessness is penetrated for this purpose.
However. There are doctines that teach about rebirth, reincarnation, eternal life and so forth. These kinds of views are alternatives to selflessness.
