Toyota has been around since 1937. Tesla has been producing cars since 2009.
I'd say Toyota has a bit of a head start, wouldn't you ? Add to that they have a global network of dealers, customers, supply systems etc. Further to that is a global network of fuel supply that has been in place for nearly 100 years.
Otherwise, they are exactly the same, aren't they ?
