What I omitted to mention is that ARM is a computer which implements software programs written in a programming language, in which each symbol/character is at least 8 bits stored in a program memory connected to a processor by a data bus. This means it takes a significant amount of time to retrieve instructions and to implement them.
Akida is configured by software prior to being put to use. However, it does not use a program to process image or other data. It works on incoming data using solid state logic gates, which makes it many times faster than a computer running a program. The architecture of Akida has relevant data stores for the neuron weights immediately adjacent to, or incorporated in, the corresponding neuron to eliminate the congeation which occurs on a standard computer's data bus.
For example, the ADE is a software equivalent of Akida and it runs on a normal computer, but it would be many times slower than Akida SoC in performing the same task becaues every bit of each character/symbol in the program must be processed to implement an instruction, while Akida only "computes" [switches a logic gate] when a spike is generated, and ADE would also consume much more power in doing the same task as Akida SoC.
