While I agree with your sentiments, your proposal is not the only way since the Danes could cut off their funding of Greenland, and because they won't want the Chinese to fill the gap, retain control of foreign policy and by doing so NOT give them full independence.
There is too much at stake for Denmark and Europe's ambitions regarding electric vehicles and the rest, and for Arctic security in conjunction with the US, to allow an inexperienced 34-year-old, idealist Greenie to run Greenland.
