GWA, whilst visiting the registered office, why not exercise your right under S. 173 of the Corporations Act to inspect the shareholders register. If you take proof you are a shareholder, they must not charge you to do so. Under S. 1300(2), they must permit inspection any time the office is open to the public. Out of courtesy and to remove any excuse, you might inquire in advance as to a convenient time, but you could just lob up if fobbed off. Under S. 1300(3), you have the right to take copies of the register (most easily done by using your phone) and it is an offence for anyone to attempt to prevent you from doing so.
The beauty of this approach is that you don't need to apply to the Supreme Court to get over hurdles placed in your path. Your remedy is to document any breaches of the Corporation Act and make a formal complaint to ASIC who should investigate and prosecute. With that in mind, if you encounter any resistance, after asking for the name of the person you are dealing with, present to them of copies of the relevant sections of the Act and mention the intent to make a complaint to ASIC in the event of breach. That should overcome fobbing off attempts by most sensible people.
Regrettably, I live far too distant from Perth to engage in such fun.
Best for anyone interested in this course, to verify for themselves the statutory references quoted above.
