well for what its worth,

if you look at the hourly chart you will see a fairly well formed ascending triangle, which is still quite wide for a breakout to the upside

so my guess is a bounce off $990, then a bounce up off about $960. maybe a breakout to the upside if the $960 support is not reached and a retest of $990 happens in the interim, i think it will

if that happens, short closing could propel it rapidly above the all time high. another barrier to this happening is the distance between the current resistance and the all time high, its quite a bit 990-1033 I think
But it depends on the time of day this happens, I have heard gold has a tendancy to sell off during the US sessions and go up in the Asian sessions, from casual observation that looks right to me

but I havent followed gold for long though so all this is just a guess!
