The stock will rise either way.
If the deal fails we have $1 billion in cash in the bank and a market cap of a little over $2 billion.
If the deal succeeds then we get a massive transformation in the underlying business and scale that is yet to be valued by the market.
One key difference with IFL and AMP is that here we have a company that is on the front foot, growing, with a clear direction vs the floundering of a board and management that do not have enough fingers for the dyke.
Also anecdotally, morale in the odd fellow (IFL) is very high and positive.
