The results 'they' gave were the only results that were available. These results were to address two questions only - should the trial continue, and what should the optimal dose be.

Those questions were considered by the Data Monitoring Safety Board (DMSB). The trial remains blinded to everyone else - Avexa included, so the best possible news Avexa could have received was that the trial should continue (indicating the drug was working) and that all participants taking ATC should be moved to the 800mg dose (which is the most suitable dose for fixed dose formulations). The announcement confirmed both of those outcomes were achieved.

Avexa had NOTHING to do with the content of the release. They did not choose to omit results about the effectiveness of the drug. They don't have those results and won't get them for a long time yet. The results regarding efficacy etc are due late in 2010.
