Thanks for your email. Its impossible to tell from the article exactly what the nature of their proposed device is, only that it utilizes phase change materials and delivers a working fluid ashore. General concepts like these are not patentable and the devil is always in the detail. I expect we will continue to see increasingly more interest in wave energy over the coming years and a flood of popular press articles on new ideas. I would argue that until an idea has been built and tested in-ocean, its not worth much more than the several thousand other wave energy patents that exist and have never been developed. I should also point out that the closest technologies to CETO include Biopower Systems and Oyster, neither of which have yet deployed in-ocean.
