There are plenty of payments options. However, until 80% (or more) of customers of a particular store are willing to use a non-EFTPOS payments solution other than cash, stores will be required to maintain an EFTPOS machine... For a small monthly payment, it ensures a merchant does not alienate their customer. Seems a no brainer.
(The same way stores still take cash, even though only a minority of customers use it)
Also - if I understand correctly, Mr Yum (QR Code ordering) is cafe/restaurant focussed. SMP is much broader than that.
