I assumed (not unreasonably) that the amount would be reduced by the dividend one received. The shares purchased after ex date didn't get the dividend but are still reduced by that amount. If you think that is fair and equitable, I respect your opinion. However, I see it as unfair and more than a little cynical and ambiguous.
