Go and have a study on Nike. How they managed to expand from the foothold in the Tier 1 cities to roll out their shops in tier 3-5 cities in China in tandem with a rising GDP trend. And how they have since become the No1 sports brand in China. Chinese domestic brands galore , but Nike is now No 1 after truly establishing itself from Tier 1 down to Tier 4 cities and Adidas is not far behind.
Another interesting fact is the biggest revenue contributor over the recent years to the Domestic brand Leader Anta group is actually their sub brand ,an Italian brand FILA acquired about 10 years back .
In the Chinese market , it’s all about brand play and when prices gap get narrower and match, a premium foreign brand usually command the market in a leading position.
