It is totally accepted political practice for a local member to be vocal about a local issue, in conflict with the relevant Minister - or even the entire government.

But they generally work within a set of rules, one of which is not to personally attack the Minister and cause him/her politcal damage. Nor should their opposition derail the key issues the party is trying to promote.

So you wave the flag of protest and hope you won't lose too many votes at the next election.
