The answer is no. They can't extract 'He' & 'Syngas' frm the same hole i.e, Magee-2.
Magee-1 had 2 gas reservoirs. One in the Stairway Sandstone (justified by 100 ppm of gas during Air Drilling & flowed brackish water) & the other in the Heavitree Quartzite (20 ppm of C1).
That well didnot have a trace of coal in its 2400m of cuttings, just lots of sandst, siltstone, dolomite & salt.
The drilling company (Pacific Oil & Gas) had prognosed the Heavitree Quartzite to be 230m thick, it was just 6.3 metres thick (from 2341.7m-2348).
However, they conducted a DST, from 2340m to 2395m (TD) & flowed very little gas (63 mscf/day). Not sure if a 'Helium Detector' was used back then during drilling.
