Today is the day of the Royal Ploughing Ceremony in many Asian countries to mark the start of rice planting season. This ancient rite is practised in Cambodia, Thailand and Mynamar. The practice dates back at least a thousand years and is believed to have been imported from India. A similar rite once existed in Japan. We're serving Num Pang - a Cambodian sandwich similar to the Vietnamese Banh Mi.
