I was never completely clear on how the matching works. I had imagined that earlier bids took precedence and would be filled starting from the lowest offers, up until the bid limit price. I thought the only thing one accomplished with a very high bid was the certainty that once their turn came in the queue, their order would get completely filled (since the limit is so high).
