If my maths is correct, on reading the graphs, they are understating the effectiveness they have obtained by stating “a three-log or 99.9% reduction in the number of colony forming units (CFUs) over 24 hours”.
In fact all graphs show a "6-log” reduction from the original concentration and all controls show a “2-log” increase in concentration of organism over the 24 hrs, so there has in fact been an effective kill rate in excess of “8-log” units of magnitude.
That is to say, if I am correct, they could have validly made the statement that “with all 6 organisms, the concentration of active organism was less than one-hundred-millionth the concentration that would otherwise have been present after 24 hrs”.
This would represent more than a 99.999999% reduction with all organisms.
