just trying to answer the thread title "why the drop" and the mechanism behind it, right or wrong.

but why buy into the announcment of a rights issue???
Come on, When you see RIGHTS ISSUE you dont buy so you can buy again lower.
Thats forced average down.
You either short sell it, or you just wait for the sp to reach the support of the rights price.
Then you pay once, at the bottom. 101.
