It's standard practice for patents to cite pre-existing patents. Part of the reason is to indicate differentiation but it's also to acknowledge that the author of the patent has already done extensive research on the prior art that exists. Nearmap's IP team would be well aware of EV's patents having referred to a selection of them in some of their later filings.
