Just a little icing on the cake....
Mirabela Nickel may double output at Santa Rita in 3 years
Thursday, 18 Jun 2009
Mirabela Nickel Limited said that output at the Santa Rita mine in Brazil may double within 3 years.
Mr Nicholas Poll MD of Mirabela Nickel said that production is scheduled to start in September 2009 and output may increase to about 56,000 tonnes annually within 3 years to 5 years. He added that "A feasibility study for an underground mine will become a priority very soon after we’re in full production. Given the results of our scoping study to date, we think it would be worth it."
Mirabela plans to begin production at Santa Rita in late September, later than planned because of a delay in financing. The company said in March that output would begin in mid 2009.
Mr Poll said that Mirabela will start Santa Rita at an annualized rate of 18,600 tonnes of nickel in concentrate, and plans to increase that to 26,000 tonnes when the project is running at full capacity by mid 2010.
