Actually our economic growth was dependent on immigration, student visas and tourist for around 2% of our last ten years GDP growth.
This was set up to run like this 20 years ago by John Howard. His de-regulation of manufacturing saw industrial scale collapse and a rise in unemployment as many businesses went off-shore. He needed to replace employment and build tax revenue and built it on immigration. Do you remember the Big Australia debates around 2003-2005?
may I suggest if you're unhappy with that you might be happier moving to a nation that doesn't allow immigration. Good luck finding one and if you do you'll need even more luck getting in... oh one comes to mind. Nepal.
