Well the first thing you would need in the scenario you painted is to use a broker who will allow you to set a stop sell order with price triggers - lets say you had been watching the stock fail to make new all time highs above $20 .
You could set a sell at market order if the price falls below $16.95 the problem with that is a gap down could see you sell considerably below the price trigger as liquidity dries up with lots of selling at the same time.
The chart in my previous post was based on T/A and should have been a warning to long term holders to bail out after the first downgrade director sells prior to the downgrade add to the warning siren.
