You make an interesting point on the number of shares on the register King1212.
There are currently 10,742,562 short positions reported (10.1% of the register) with on average 6 days to cover:
Days to cover is calculated by taking the number of currently shorted shares and dividing by the average daily trading volume.
My understanding is that a high days to cover can signal a potential short squeeze.
It is interesting to note that days to cover is increasing and is currently at 13 days:
