Why in any universe would Abbott have lifted a finger to save an industry that was a burden to the Australian Taxpayer and Economy. They built good(arguably) cars just not the right kind of cars. Auto companies can be slow to shift(technology). The high A$ that made our cars uncompetitive in the 00's was the deathnell for the Industry. Your assertion that Abbott was the instigator just shows your political bias. Politically we were slow to rid ourselves of the car industry. But we did have the workers to think about and I guess fair enough. They have been retrained mostly and have shifted to other jobs. Poor Governments are a problem but we do not really have that. We are a small player on the global scene but the fact we have an abundance of resources has ensured we have prospered and most of us have. The have nots in this country are the few not the many.
"The more Pollies play politics" = how naive are you. What else are politicians going to do. Keating always bragged about how intoxicating it what to have the hands on the levers...a pollies dream come true. But these pollies in Oz do not set the agenda ...sure they fiddle with settings but that is all.
Abbott is an easy target coz he was unpopular with everybody me included could not stand him. But Rudd was just as bad. The media focus on politics is way over the top because frankly they are not that important. Getting your nickers in a twist over left right central pragmatist etc is a complete waste of time and yet we have citizens who believe they should molly coddled and looked after their entire lives now that is a tragedy.
