Click to enlarge photo PARIS (AFP) - France may sell 15 percent of nuclear energy group Areva to strategic investors in Asia and the Middle East and elsewhere, and is preparing a capital increase, a newspaper report said on Friday.
The report, in the Financial Times, said the government was considering the sale of 15 percent of the company, a jewel in France's nuclear-power generation industry, raising two billion euros (2.8 billion dollars) to help finance development of the group.
Citing people with knowledge of the situation, the FT said Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Areva's Japanese partner, was set to take a stake in the French company.
Areva needs between eight and 10 billion euros by 2012 to fund its investment programme, it added.
Officials at the company or in government were not immediately available for comment on the report Friday.
