    Seems that there is a difference between dividend income and trust distribution income. From the ATO website (at: Individuals/Work Out Your Tax/Income You Must Declare) you can find the following:

    Trust Distributions:
    Some trust distributions paid after 30 June 2008 need to be included on your tax return for this year. This is because you were entitled to this income at 30 June 2008.


    Income from Dividends:
    Dividends paid to shareholders are assessable income in the year they are paid and are to be included on the shareholder's tax return.
