I don't support the nuclear industry on the basis that we seem to be happy to mine uranium but at the same time we are not prepared to accept the waste. As you say, Kashga, central Australia is the best place on the planet to store the waste. If we want to mine uranium and promote the nuclear industry around the world then we should live up to our global responsibility and offer to store the waste here. Unfortunately the NIMBY's will probably not wear it.
I'm a bit of a greenie though and my personal view is that we should be going down the path of renewable energy and if there are high embedded energy costs then so be it, they are once off costs. Also, in a totally 100% renewable environment, surely the embedded energy costs reduce to zero, do they not? No one ever seems to mention this. All these calculations seem to be done on the basis that all our energy is generated by coal and of course it isn't plus in the future less and less of it will be.
