Although George is stepping down, and his relationship with the Chinese will be hard to replace, I would say that most of the negotiating has already been done, and all that is required now is some of the finer detail, which Geoff no doubt has the ability to do.
With his previous involvement, and considering that he still holds a large parcel of shares, I would imagine that George would still make himself and his knowledge available to the SDL board if required. If the man is not 100% well, and you have someone as capable as Geoff there, it is probably better off to hand it over to Geoff.
I would also imagine that it will now provide increased motivation for Geoff to get it over the line, so given the oppurtunity, I am sure that he is going to take the bull by the horns.
I don't know if many of you have seen that SDL clip on Youtube. Not much too look at, but it was actually Geoff who looked like he was running the show anyway.
