Can anyone advise where that "substantial 10-fold increase in waste" figure comes from? "
From an initial 50,000 tonnes to a revised 500,000 tonnes a year".
From way back a year and a half ago in TNG's 'NT Major Projects Conference' presentation (

p.31 screenshot below), 2 Mtpa ore feed was going to produce 700,000 tpa magnetite concentrate (at the mine, to be shipped to Darwin), from which 606,000 tpa iron oxide + titanium pigment + vanadium pentoxide were to be produced. Leaving - one would have to calculate - no more than 96,000 tpa waste. How is that now more than 5 times as much?

I can only assume TNG's figures have changed very substantially over the last 18 months, or ...
I sure hope some random ABC journo or EPA flunky hasn't mistakenly grabbed the 500,000 tpa Fe2O3 figure and run with it . . .
