BRISBANE, Aug 4 AAP - Virgin Blue Holdings Ltd today said it
might consider lifting its $6 fuel levy if jet oil prices continue
    to climb.
Domestic and international airlines around the world, including
Qantas Airways Ltd and Virgin, added fuel surcharges to the cost of
their fares in May due to surging jet fuel prices.
Virgin chief executive Brett Godfrey said the company was not
considering a hike in the fuel levy at the moment but would be
    watching oil prices very closely.
"But I assure you that if fuel heads north and stays north, it's
up on where we introduced the fuel surcharge so we'd need to look
at it," he said after the company's annual general meeting.
"We will take it off when the time is appropriate and if we
believe it to be appropriate we will need to look at further
    introductions or further amounts."
Mr Godfrey criticised OPEC, saying it keeps prices artificially
high "and as a result of that we're all paying a price, right
    around the world"/
By 1345 AEST, Virgin shares were down 22 cents or 10.78 per cent
    at $1.82.
