So true. But with AI this could change. Many of the diplomas and degrees hung on people's walls are the results of getting through an educational system that largely rewards memory as opposed to the skills that are becoming more needed in the workforce these days, like critical and creative thinking, being able to research, synthesise, and collaborate. A few weeks ago I sent an email to our friends at Brainchip head office just to suggest that AI in education could be something for them to consider in the future. With exams being completed on computers, there is a potential in the future to assess much more than memory. Interacting with AI to solve a real world like problem would show how a student uses their knowledge and skills to go about solving a problem. This has already begun through the PISA examinations. Interestingly, Australian kids do pretty well in the World rankings when these kind of skills are tested, as opposed to memorising mathematical formula. I believe AI will not replace the need for teachers, but that the role of teachers will change. IMO, AI has the potential to accelerate a child's learning in subjects like mathematics and computer science. It is my interest in AI in education that led me to Brainchip.
