1) increasing d/e ratios
2) uncertainty about finding the 500m in savings in the 'sustainable future' thing
3) Most importantly....competition on LAX route - its about time minister for Qantas saw through Dixon's whining on this. Dixon claims that QAN can't get the same benefits flying out of singapore to europe, as singapore can by flying syd-lax. but why then have qan pulled out of paris and rome (they codeshare now).
why? because only has the 747 on its long haul routes, which requires around 290 out of 400 seats to be filled to break even. at the moment, qan doesn't have any other long haul aircraft, in particular the more efficient twin engined aircraft (767s moved to domestic operation, although a330s are SLOWLY being moved to international routes but mainly to asian routes)
some of these issues are too complex for a ramping board like hotcopper so ill stop here. However, may i add that as long as Liberal Govt are stil in power (and in particular anderson as transport minister) then QAN is still a bargain.
