The clinical trial study, sponsored by US-based Bristol-Myers Squib and conducted here in Australia, investigated a drug called LAG-3 inhibitor, which targets a protein in the immune cells and enhances the body’s fighting response to the tumours.
The study found that when when the "LAG-3 inhibitor" is combined with a common melanoma treatment, the PD1 inhibitor, progression of the skin cancer had stopped in 50% of patients.

MUSINGS? In 1928 penicillin, the first true antibiotic, was discovered by Alexander Fleming, Professor of Bacteriology at St. Mary's Hospital in London.

By 1944 the subcommittee on Scope approved penicillin standard for admission to the USP, and in 1945, the FDCA was amended to require FDA certification of penicillin. Subsequent amendments extended this certification to encompass all antibiotics.
LAG-3 itself was discovered in 1990 by Immutep’s own Chief Scientific and Chief Medical Officer, Professor Frederic Triebel.
Potentially and IMHO, LAG-3 may prove to be just as significant a medical discovery as penicillin in 1928 and become the standard of care in many treatment settings.
