There have been huge spikes in the platinum and palladium price in the past. I can only recall two successful miners listed on the ASX - ZIM in Zimbabwe and Aquarius Platinum in South Africa (although it wasn't always peaches and cream). All the others turned to dust although CHN may be an outside chance if the prices don't tank again. CHN is also still pre-resource and have a long path to travel before they start production.
It's a tough business unless you own a refinery nearby.
