According to the latest 2016 Australian census:
Those born in China make up 8.3% (up from 6.0% in the previous census) of the Australian population;
Those born in India make up 7.6% (up from 5.6% in the previous census) of the Australian population;
for a combined total of 15.9% of the Australian population, up from 11.6% or 4.3 percentage points.
How long will this rise in the Asian population of Australia continue, and what effect will it have?
This census does not, of course, take into account the total population of Indian and Chinese descent, as this census does not include the children of those from Chinese and Indian descent.
