Just because you don’t understand how something works does not mean it is silly and for your information derivatives of sorts are integral to operations for certain companies and industries and are not responsible for the collapse of the world, they are important hedging tool albeit used by speculators too.

If dumb people by products they dont understand they can hold themselves responsible i am not talking about general public products I am referring to a hedge by a company that will seek to create a derivative to cover its own specific risk. These products are specialized and not standarized.
If a MD or CEO seeks to hedge risk using derivativies you can assume he is not dumb.
Maybe you should inform yourself more with financial instruments before making statements like that.
