i'll jump in here with opinions - been watching the greatest game with a unique two eyes and appreciate the best. oh yeah love the punt so betting helped me watch all sides, not just the club i followed as a kid.
the following premiers should be moved higher on the list.
west coast 92 & 94 - ruthless and highly skilled sides - brilliant defence & on ball outfits - the forward line not the greatest but the on ballers did the majority of goal kicking anyway. essendon 84 & 85 - yeah sure they lost a few games (likely out drinking the night before) but over that 2 year period they were otherwise unbeatable.
and moved lower down the list.
collingwood 1990 - go down in magpie folklore for breaking a 32 year drought, but likely very fortunate to win that flag. lost 5 H&A games during the year, a draw in the 1st week of finals (sumich missing after the siren forcing the draw), and the replay forcing the other contender (essendon) into a 3 week break which proved too long a break. essendon had also been a little nostalgic in the last H&A game playing all 4 danihers and generally celebrating a little too early. and the other main issue was that great hawthorn team of the 88-91 era had a very poor run with injuries, with many stars missing long periods of the season. no doubt if hawthorn had that flag too, that whole period would be rated even higher than they already are. and all of this coming from a pie fan - how about that.
