I called one of the estate agents to ask (doing my due diligence). Aparently its not unusually high in his opinion, it is one of the cheapest places to purchase housing in the Country, if not THE cheapest. Its proximity to Adelaide (2.5hrs on a good run, 2hrs after the road upgrade completion). The town has always had a high turn around of property. He knew nothing about any mines in development (if h did he didnt let slip), but there were always rumors (that sadly never eventuated). Abatoir and farm workers are usually his bread and butter buyers, as rent for one of these places can be 150 - 200 dollars a week it often makes more sense to buy. At the prices of some of these homes (some are quite beautiful) with that rent income its a nice return on investment.
