gearset,
I know a bloke about ten years older than myself that drove a GTHO from a Pub (just the starting point, not intoxicated) in Wagga Wagga to Double Bay in Sydney circa 300 miles in the early 1970's in something like 2 hours and 58 minutes.
Around the same time my mum did the trip in about 9 hours sticking to the rules.
The Hume Hwy wasn't much chop and had plenty of slow moving traffice back then so a fairly mighty feat.
