I have no medical experience, but I have a good friend we nearly lost due to sepsis.
he wasn’t diagnosed early enough and his organs started shutting down, ending up in ICU for around a month teetering on the edge.
Once released from hospital he couldn’t walk up 2 steps without gasping fir breath.
2 years on and he is still only about 70% of normal with him tiring very easily and needing to go To bed way earlier in the night than he previously did.
He lives in an Australian capital city, so not an issue due to a lack of services.
I can only presume that sepsis tests are only ordered once a diagnosis points that way.
I presume in his case that they thought it was another issue and didn’t order the test.
If it was an in house test then I would bet that the test would be done more frequently as lab tests cost the hospitals money that they won’t spend frivolously, whereas a bedside test that could get the patient out quicker could become more widely used I presume.
