If that is what you are fixated on, I have some "bad" news for you birds.

    WRONG!

The above charts only went up to 2018, but the transition in Germany is occurring at a breathtaking pace.

So, after digging up the latest 2020 figures for you, renewable energy sources have now reached 50% of Germany's energy supply:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electricity_sector_in_Germany

Renewable sources overtook fossil fuel in 2019. ... so you are incorrect to suggest that fossil and nuclear combined are still "way above" renewables.

As for your thought provoking questions:

1.) I do know that a shitload of gas is imported from Russia, which is a cause of grave concern for a large portion of German citizens. Not sure where they get all their dirty coal from (at one stage they were the 4th largest importer of coal in the world!), but it does not really matter, as they have legislated to phase out all coal power by 2038. But you make a valid point. Renewable energy is not only cleaner and good for the environment, it also offers far superior energy security than any other energy sources it is usually generated locally.

2.) Expect to be woken up in 2022 - that is when Germany aims to shut down the remaining nuclear reactors (12 of previously 19 reactors have already been shut down)... and the 84 coal power stations are scheduled for shut down by 2038. Yes, that might bee "too long" but given the catastrophic changes in global climate due to fossil fuel emissions, some of those target dates might have to be brought forward.... just like the UK bringing forward the phasing out of ICE cars by 5 years the other day.

I wonder if it will indeed be the Good Lord who will be waking up climate change deniers... or perhaps the other fella?
