I thought this was worth starting a new thread to start the new financial year off.
we have been waiting pretty much 18 months for the European wide launch of Menicon Bloom. Delayed due to Covid VTI have announced this will kick off now so there should be some new threads of information or visibility which start to occur. I understood it would start in the UK.
for any new holders or people scanning threads for first time a very brief summary is:
- Menicon are one of the worlds largest optical companies with revenues of $700m annually
- they have signed a white label distribution deal for VTI naturalvue daily disposable lenses to be sold under the name ‘Bloom Day,
- this complements their existing nightime orthakology lenses ‘Bloom night’ to complete their myopia range
- in other recent related developments Johnson and Johnson the worlds largest eyecare company did a deal with Menicon to distribute their ‘Bloom Night’ lenses under their own myopia branded range (J&J are yet to secure/ provide a daily disposable myopia Lense)
hence the European launch by Menicon if it kicks off in earnest is very material to VTI for two reasons:
1) the scale and reach of Menicon mean the revenue could be massive. All VTIs current revenue essentially comes from its network of circa 2,000 independent opticians in the US. It’s early days for sales numbers in HK/ Singapore and Canada. One existing Menicon client in the Uk spec savers has to we 1,000 branches
2) there is growing and accelerating corporate actions in the myopia space as the majors battle to have full myopia control portfolios. This has been evidenced by some of my earlier research not just on J&J deal with Menicon here
https://www.menicon.com.au/product/news/view/99/
but also Elissa and coopervisions February deal here
https://www.healio.com/news/optometry/20210205/coopervision-essilor-to-commercialize-sightglass-myopia-control-lenses
I find the timing of the new directors appointment to be perfect to support this pivotal point of inflection in both global sales and distribution, and also how this will further promote awareness to the major eyecare companies of the world of VTI products all of whom are trying to shore up their myopia portfolios for the next decade for one of the worlds largest growing healthcare epidemics.
The Covid screentine issues for kids as widely reported are driving new studies and requirements in both China and Japan in addition to the obvious corporate actions meaning the wave will only grow larger.
so back to the Europe launch of Menicon Bloom I notice they are advertising for a new German Professional Service Mgr to join their existing team of 60 German based staff. This role I translated the job description from German and it’s specific to supporting the launch of Menicon concept which is the portfolio name they will use when they add Bloom Day to Bloom Night and support with electronic opticians tools. By including bloom day they tout ‘concept’ as ‘Europe’s most comprehensive CE approved myopia control system’
you can find info on ‘concept’ here
https://www.menicon.com/product/contact-lenses/view/bloom-day/
and here is the job add. If I find other European info relating to country launches I will add them to this thread in the coming months
