This announcement, to allow exploration, is a welcome permission - the primary permission of several that are required before getting an exploitation licence.
We are fortunate that there are no significant quantities of uranium in the pit, so EPM does not have to face the problems that GGG is having.
However, I am unsure what the situation is with lead in the pit.
I raise this question because EPM's announcement to the ASX of 10th March discusses the results of drilling into the bottom of the pit:"Some of the drilling has yielded high grade base metals values such as 1.7% Cu, 18.2% Zn and 7.7% Pb"
Pb is lead. We know that lead in the tailings from the previous mining of the pit are contaminating the waters of the fjord.
I doubt that GoG will allow EPM to dump more tailings onto the shoreline.So if EPM is going to get a shift on, for getting the promised near term riches from mining quartz, it will surely have to find somewhere else to dump the tailings.
Is there such a place? I imagine the exploration programme will address this question.
