I don't see how it can be said that investments in Great Southern / Timbercorp MIS projects were investments in ponzie schemes.

A ponzie scheme works on the basis that investors money goes into a project and that same money comes back out to pay the investor and or other investors after a fairly short period of time. New investors see the investment is paying out good dividends or returns and rush to put more money in thereby ensuring the scheme can continue.

The MIS investments operated by Great Southern / Timbercorp were long term investments (up to 10 years) and had not reached the stage where significant sums of money were being paid out.

The MIS investments did not have the essential ingredient of being able to show that substantial gains could be made in a short period of time which is key to attracting new investment monies.

Investors in the Great Southern / Timbercorp projects knew their money was locked in for up to 10 years and therefore they were not investing in the expectation of some quick financial gain.
