Dogs are great mates but I think some of these treatments are over the top. Heard of a couple who spent $15,000 to treat cataracts in a 15 year old border collie. The dog would be nearing the end of its life and would have copped quite well in its own environment. Our son and his partner have a golden retriever which was involved in a scrap with another dog one Sunday afternoon. They rang to ask us what to do. Since the bites were around the jaw and face I told them to make up some salt and water and syringe out all the puncture wounds to get rid of the bacteria and use some cream if they had some. They decided to go to the vet who promptly used saline to flush the bites and put some ointment on them. Expensive lesson when a bit of common sense would do.
