It's not about BNPL on micropayments it's about customer engagement for other more lucrative financial products.
The existing FSP just took a watching brief by letting the upstart BNPL spend billions of dollars in promoting the service fully expecting it to fail but we're never going to stand by and let them "eat their lunch ,,".
The present business models were always destined to fail as the micropayments business plan meant customer acquisition costs could never be recovered.
Any hopes they had of converting those customers to more valuable financial products are now dashed in the face of trusted brands like Apple and Google in the market place.
