There are four possible outcomes from the Israeli trial.
1. Very Positive. A response rate around what was seen in the historical average (30%-40%). Given how more heavily treated patients are today this would be an outstanding result. I would be looking around for the big red button to press to launch RAC to the moon
2. Positive. Any patients responding. Given the patient population in the trial (very late stage and heavily pretreated) I would be happy if we see a single patient go into CR.
3. Neutral. No patients responding, but no serious side effects seen. We would just move onto testing the new drug combinations we have identified. Just because patient today don't respond to Bisantrene on its own, does not mean it won’t work well in the right combination.
4. Negative. No patients responding and serious side effects seen linked to bisantrene. I doubt this is likely as the trial would have been halted if this had occurred. It may be possible to work around this outcome by reducing the dose in a optimised combination, but it would be hard work.
I remember waiting around for these Israel trial results and this comment has always stuck in my mind. Surely after these trial results and everything that has happened since (re. FTO), the image of you I have in my head is pretty accurate....
